Say, “He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you and from beneath your feet or to confuse you [so you become] sects and make taste the violence of one another.” Look how We diversify the signs that they might understand. (6:65)

And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe. (11:102)

And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction (17:16)

He punishes whom He wills and has mercy upon whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned. (29:21)
