Name and Lineage:
- Abu Abdullah Al Zubayr ibn Al Awwam ibn Kuhwaylid ibn Asad ibn Abdul Uzzah ibn Qusay ibn Kilab
- Mother: Safiyah bint Abdul Muttalib, the Messenger’s ﷺ aunt
His Islam:
- Amongst the early Muslims
- He was the fourth or fifth to become Muslim
- Became Muslim at the age of 8 (some say 16)
- His uncle tortured him with smoke to force him to leave Islam but he didn’t
- Migrated to Abyssinia both times
His Description:
- Fair skinned
- Tall
- Relatively lightweight
- It was also said he was neither tall nor short and he was dark skinned with thick body hair and light facial hair
His Children:
- From Asma bint Abu Bakr: Abdullah, Urwah, Al Mundhir, Aasim, Al Muhajir, Khadijah al Kubra, Umm al Hasan, and Aisha
- From Ummah bint Khalid ibn Sai’d ibn al As: Khalid, Amr, HAbibah, Sawdah, and Hind
- From Al Rabab bint Anif ibn Ubayd: Mus’ab, Hamzah, and Ramlah
- From Zaynab: Ubaydah and Ja’far
- From Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah ibn Abu Mu’ayt: Zaynab
- From Al Halal bint Qays: Khadijah al Sughra
His Virtues and Excellence
- He didn’t miss any battle with the Messenger ﷺ
- He was the first to unsheathe a sword for the sake of Allah
- 1 of the 10 Promised Paradise
- The Prophet ﷺ said: “Every prophet has a disciple and my disciple is Al Zubayr” Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim
- Amr ibn Mus’ab ibn al Zubayr said: “Al Zubayr fought with the Prophet ﷺ when he was 12 years old, and he used to charge at the pagans.”
- Nahik said: “Al Zubayr had a thousand slaves who collected dues owed to him; not a single dirham of which entered his house. He donated it all”
- His total fortune was 50 million and 200 thousand
His Death:
- Killed in the Battle of the Camel at the age of 75 (some say 60, some say 50-something)
- Killed by ibn Jarmuz
